The RWDA is a shinning example of what the Tanzanians can do for themselves and in the particular case of its founder, Gloria, a wonderful example of what education and training can do to a woman and how that education can be re–invested into the country.
Education is the first step to women's economic, social and political empowerment. To this end the RWDA provides seminars and on going training in issues prioritized by the women such as health and hygiene, budgeting, family planning, agriculture, legal rights and awareness.

In a country like Tanzania, education has to have many facets. The most obvious is to train the next generations of teachers, doctors, nurses, entrepreneurs, politicians (we still need them!) and people, like Gloria, with the vision and dedication to turn the tables. But education also has to deal with the immediacy of the majority of women and men who have, at best, a primary education but still need to be able to make the best of their abilities and social and economic opportunities.
As the following extract from the "World Development Report", 1993 so truly puts it. “Education greatly strengthens women's ability to perform their vital role in creating healthy households. It increases their ability to benefit from health information and to make good use of health services; it increases their access to income and enables them to live healthier lives. It is not surprising, therefore, that a child's health is affected more by the mother's schooling than by the father's schooling".
It is the RWDA’s dream to open a progressive centre that will provide information and adult classes for women. Such a centre will allow women to pursue the aspects of education most relevant to their needs and objectives as well as provide them with civic information and access to regional, national and international networks and markets through the internet.
Please help us make this dream a reality as well as contribute to the many seminars and workshops that the RWDA offers.
